We were out on the town with our good friends Kevin and Claudia Smith some weeks back when Claudia hatched this idea of throwing a Bon Voyage party for us. Given the nettlesome economy, the billing quickly morphed into a "3 for 1 Recession Special" in light of the fact that Kevin and Claudia were planning a summer voyage of their own -- a three week Alaskan cruise -- plus Kevin crosses into a new year the day before we depart for Sweden. We decided on June 13th as the party date and their house as the party place, and then set about the business of party planning.
We want a large, festive crowd, so our guest list basically includes everyone we know. (If you are reading this blog, please consider yourself invited.) Despite the "Recession Special" moniker, our theme concentrates on good times with good friends. Claudia is contemplating menu details, but the general direction is summer BBQ fare washed down by beer and margaritas. The festivities will commence at 4 p.m.
I put together an attractive invitation flier and printed it out for snail mail and hand delivery. I also pasted it into an email for electronic distribution. Here are the words, minus the graphic elements, which wouldn't import into the blog:
