Crew Line Up

Part of the beauty of cruising is the necessity to go literally where the wind blows, which puts a damper on mandatory timetables and destinations. None-the-less, as we converse with friends and family, our summer cruising plan is beginning to become more concrete.

Jocelyn and I want to protect at least a few early weeks to get to know the boat (and rediscover each other) before engaging guests (read: crew) aboard. We take delivery of the boat June 17th and, after a few days provisioning at Ellos, we will work our way up the Swedish west coast and across the mouth of the Oslofjord as a short handed crew.

Then, the crew line up looks like this:

July 11-15 - Our Vienna friends (and Mahina cohorts) Martin and Dawn join us in Tonsberg, Norway, to help us move the boat to Stavanger on Norway's west coast
July 15 - Martin and Dawn depart, and our son John joins us, fresh from a Tufts junior semester abroad in Buenos Aires. We sail for Bergen.
July 19 - Emily flies in to Bergen and the nuclear family is reunited. We set sail to explore the Norwegian fjords.
August 3 - John's girlfriend Emma joins us somewhere between Bergen and Trondheim.
August 13 - Emma disembarks and makes her way back to the U.S.
August 16 - Nephew Andy and his girlfriend Fiona travel from London to join us somewhere near Bergen.
August 19 - John and Emily leave Windleblo at Bergen to return to the States.
August 22 - Carmen, former brother-in-law and Andy's dad, is welcomed aboard somewhere south of Bergen.
August 24 - Andy, Fiona, and Carmen disembark at Stavanger or Mandal; Andy & Fiona to return to London, Carmen to continue his Scandinavian travels.

Jocelyn and I will then have several weeks for the return trip to Orust to again enjoy the west coast of Sweden as a short-handed crew before delivering the boat for winter storage at the end of September. We depart Goteborg on September 30th for the return flight to Colorado.

Some of the above dates are tentative, and we hope everyone realizes that by their nature cruising plans are flexible. The unforeseen (e.g., weather) may complicate crew rendezvous, forcing crew to come to the boat rather than the boat coming to crew. Regardless, the crew line up promises to create a lively and enjoyable series of summer adventures. We can't wait!
